Trey Canard will miss Saturday night’s race in San Diego due to a shoulder injury suffered in a practice crash at the opening round.
The news comes just a few days after the Red Bull KTM rider failed to start the 450SX Main Event in Anaheim. Canard did qualify for the 20 minute + 1 lap feature, but elected to DNS as a result of the nagging injury.
“I didn’t think it was much and tried to ride through it but by the time I got to the main event, I couldn’t manage so I decided to call it a night,” he said in an Instagram post following A1.
Canard underwent further evaluation earlier this week and it was discovered that he suffered a minor rotator cuff tear.
“The good news is that the tear is minor and doesn’t require any type of surgery,” Canard said in a statement. “It feels extremely sore right now because of the swelling and fluid that has built up around it but once the swelling goes down the doctor says I should be good to go.”
No replacement rider is expected while Canard is recovering.
