2017 Season Recap:

Smith joined a new team for his third year of supercross competition, racing for a brand other than Honda for the first time as a professional. The North Carolina native scored his first podium of the season at round 1 in Minneapolis and continue to prove himself at the front of the field with two back-to-back wins at rounds 6 and 7. Smith went on to finish 4th overall, just five points out of third.
